The Ongoing Flitter of Twitter

Nikki Revamped
I had stopped using Twitter quite some time ago. It lost its spark and usefulness. People follow so many accounts that they do not really "follow" anyone. My simple account was merely lost at sea with little to no interaction. In fact, back in March I added "Delete Twitter Account" to my to-do list. And, then, procrastinated. Maybe for nostalgic reasons. I've been a Twitterhead since 2010!

Fast-foward to June and my spontaneous launching of a new blog. With this endeavor, I decided I either needed to be active on Twitter once more or finally cut the cord.

I started going through my list of accounts I follow and determined a clean-up was in order. My policy has always been to unfollow any account that has been inactive for one year or more. I made the usual exception for friends' accounts or accounts on causes that I supported. Still, I eliminated close to 100 accounts today - many of which had not been active since 2019 or earlier.

Oddly, there were so many accounts that had clearly changed not only their handle but also their entire message. Others had pinned a final tweet announcing they were jumping ship. I noticed a couple of accounts were again active, with one person stating she was back from purgatory after having been suspended without cause.

At one point in my blogging career, Twitter was key to success. It was a valuable asset to reach readers. However, so was Google+ and we all know how that ended. I can only give it one last hurrah and see where that takes me.
